The Cluster offers excellent development opportunities for university graduates and scientists from the region as well as national and international graduates. Practical solutions, products and services for an efficient use of energy and to protect the environment are becoming more and more demanded internationally and offer a significant development potential for this area.
The Basis:
- the Lippendorf Power Station in which the traditional energy source brown coal is powered with modern technology
- the extraction of lignite for the Lippendorf Power Station by the “Mitteldeutsche Braunkohlegesellschaft“ (MIBRAG) in South Leipzig
- the significant photovoltaic facilities in Espenhain, Borna, Eilenburg and near Brandis, which is currently the largest solar energy power station in the world that will reach full capacity by 2009
- the Leipzig Institute for Energy as an inter-regional, recognized research and consultation institute for the entire energy industry
- the European Energy Exchange AG – the only market trading place for electricity and gas in Germany
- the VNG - Verbundnetz Gas AG, as one of the ten largest natural gas traders in Europe with its headquarters in Leipzig
